Python program - 2008/01/25 15:30 Well, first post for this fledgling forum!

Does anyone know of anyone claiming to have hit upon the solution yet?

I bought the full game in the sales for £8 and I've written a program in Python to play it. It is currently running 24 hours a day and places 6 million valid pieces an hour. The most it has reached (as of now) is 162 pieces out of 256.

Clearly, there is no guaranteed brute force approach so I hope to get lucky! I'll keep you posted when I check it!

Andy

P.S. Here's a running list of today's trial in 3 hours. The first number is the highest space achieved, the right number if the number of tiles tried in order to get there:

Re:Python program - 2008/01/28 14:37 Hi,
It is good starting success, but ...
If you use brute force system, you must check 4! * 56! * 195! * 4^195 = 1.12e557 permutations to 31.dec.2008. We have back-track program written in C# and we can count about 4 mil. per second. I can use 20 computers in my work for 12 hour and 4 in my home. Still not enough.

Good Luck

Re:Python program - 2008/02/06 13:09 Yeah, I know that, you know that and they know that!

Still worth running it in the background just in case you get very very very very very very very very very lucky. Mine logs to file and is running 24x7, doing slightly less per second than you now. Here's a teaser for people:

On the left is the space number, counting in a clockwise spiral from piece zero which came with the game, on the right is the tile number. You'll have to figure out the orientations (I'm not doing it all for you!). I've no idea whether this particular set would have continued and found the solution because I had to shut down the program and go home from work! So, if you succeed from this starting point, congratulations, I won't be expecting a cut!

Be lucky, people, if anyone wants a copy of my code, drop me a line...I've no more chance of you winning ahead of me than I ahead of you!

Re:Python program - 2009/01/17 13:04 Hello, Andy,

I would like to try coding in Python.
Could you help?

I am working on Eternity II for about 18 months now.

Did you come any nearer to a solution since your last post? Or did you quit?

Greetings

Re:Python program - 2009/07/31 20:44 I'd also like to see the code if it is not promising!
